    Name: Blacksmithing Fundamentals
    Date: October 29, 2021
    Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM PDT
    Event Description:
Forge like a real blacksmith! Come once to try it out and make a small project, or keep coming back to learn more and level up your skills! Students will learn how to make individual items like basic hooks, leaves, bottle openers, keychains, etc. These are fun classes, and can be a great introduction to forging and blacksmithing. Our fundamental blacksmithing classes follow a national curriculum and progress through three different levels, ranging from the very basics of blacksmithing to advanced techniques. The focus of these classes is on mastering the fundamentals of blacksmithing. Students will make projects in these classes, but the emphasis is on skill development and technique, as well as the other educational aspects of blacksmithing. At Gizmo, we typically prefer a structured and more measurable teaching process that focuses more on skill development than producing a specific project. Curriculum- Our skill based blacksmithing classes follow a nationally recognized curriculum. It is by far the best linear and progressive path for beginner and advanced blacksmiths to develop the skills of an effective blacksmith. There are three different levels in the curriculum. Level 1 typically takes about 40-50 hours to complete. When Level 1 is complete, the student will have all of the basic skills of forging. From there, most students decide if they want to continue to more advanced skills through the Level 2 and Level 3 course, or jump in to our Journeyman curriculum. The idea is that if a student can forge steel cleanly, to measurement, by drawing out, upsetting, punching, drifting, forge welding, etc., then they can transfer those skills to make anything they can imagine. With skill focused learning, the student still makes projects, but the focus is learning the skills above all else. When: Every Friday in October Time: 10am - 12pm Fee: $60, plus $10 for materials This class is designed for children and adults. Younger students are usually 9-12, but exceptions can be made students younger than that. FACILITATED BY: David Walker @Fire Iron Forge
